China is one of the world’s most disaster prone countries, having suffered severe natural disasters over the last few decades. In the last decade alone natural disasters in Asia have claimed over 500,000 lives and affected almost 1 billion people. The economic loss is estimated to be USD 200 billion.

• Enormous marketing of post-disaster reconstruction
There have been significant contributions from the regional and local governments towards disaster reduction and recovery. Reports show that Central and Local budgets for 2009 had a provision of US$ 21.46 billion towards public security. 2010 budgets have an increase of 8% and expecting spend around US$ 23.18 billion towards public security.
 

The central budget in 2010 for post-disaster reconstruction fund is US$ 162.4 billion towards infrastructure, industry, environment, disaster prevention and reduction. Central government paid almost US$ 50.32 billion USD in post-disaster reconstruction during the period 2008-2009.
